Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine-April 2008
Despite its wealth of rich oak and its tantalizing touches of root beer, cocoa and cream, this keenly defined opus is very specific in its deep Cabernet fruit, and its strong themes of ripe currants stay the course from beginning to end. It is an especially well-polished wine on the palate and its very trim tannins allow its concentrated fruit to shine through, but, its present temptations noted, it is impeccably balanced and promises to get better and better for a good many years.

Wine Spectator -April 2008

Ripe and fleshy, with generous plum, black cherry and red cherry fruit that's intense and complex without being too powerful or overblown.  Ends with firm, fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2012.

Turnbull 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon
95 points

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine
Real expectation and excitement are raised by this well-made youngster's concentrated aromas of cassis, smoke, mint, dark soils and dried cherries, and its expansive, deeply-filled flavors fully live up to promise. Already praiseworthy both for its real range of character, its luscious fruit and for the way its many pieces fit together, the wine is solidly structured and shows no shortage of youthfully gruff tannin. It is built to get better for a number of years, and it comes with a recommendation for five to eight years of cellaring.

Wine Enthusiast October 2006
With a fair degree of new French oak, this lovely wine has a toasty, cedary edge that meshes well with the underlying fruit. Small amounts of Syrah, Cab Franc and Merlot bring a lighter, red cherry note to Cab’s deeper, darker blackberries and currants. Very stylish and sophisticated wine.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine
Volume 29 Issue 8: June 2005
Long on well-defined melony fruit and fit with a bit of varietal grass and a deft touch of sweet oak spice, this very well-made young Sauvignon is deeper and far better filled than most of the competition and is simply a more serious wine. While very vital, it comes without concessions to the coarseness of youth, and, as utterly tasty as it may be right now, it promises to stand up quite nicely with two or three years in bottle. GOOD VALUE.

Connoisseurs’ Guide (April 2005)
6% Cabernet Franc; 3% Syrah; 2% Merlot; 1% Petit Verdot. The deep, well formed, somewhat youthfully compact aromas of currants, roots and seamlessly fitted oak all serve to give this bottling a fine first foot forward, and its sweet, ripe flavors are very much in line with that fine beginning. If fairly concentrated in flavor and seemingly inviting current consumption, the wine will certainly reward a half dozen years of patient cellaring with an even smoother rendition.

Volume 29 Issue 2: December 2004
Rich oak, touches of freshly roasted coffee and dusty earth, and subtle suggestions of mint emerge as complexing adjuncts to deep, keenly defined fruit in both the aromas and flavors of this well-made young Cabernet. The wine is moderately full-bodied and fit with a fine spine of tannin for age, but there is already a certain sense of suppleness and polish evident here, and its mix of real richness and continuous fruit makes impatient drinking forgivable if not wholly advised. And, it is a great buy at the price. GOOD VALUE.
