We have deep roots in the history of the Napa Valley, crafting wine for nearly 40 years from this original estate site in Oakville. Noted Northern California Architect William J. Turnbull was the original owner of the winery and vineyard, together with Reverdy Johnson. They purchased the winery in 1979 as a small project, starting first in growing grapes to sell to neighboring wineries, and later added winery production to their repertoire. Mr. Turnbull’s aesthetic is ingrained in the property and winery buildings, as well as with his original country home and drafting studio. The lines of the buildings and their beauty catch us by surprise still to this day, and many of those who follow and admire the work of William Turnbull have visited the winery.
Patrick O’Dell purchased the winery from Turnbull and Johnson in 1993, and set out to add vineyard land from throughout Oakville and the Napa Valley to the original holdings at the Turnbull home ranch. Always collectors, our family searched for a mix of valley floor and steep sloped sites – those perfect parcels that together would create an “orchestra” for our artistic expression. (Another example of our passion for collecting is our world-class black and white photography collection. You can see in our Gallery tasting room with two shows rotated throughout the year.)
Today, Zoe Johns, second generation vintner and President, is guiding the family-owned business forward and building upon the family and brand’s original legacy.
